This was where nobles and lords met to discuss trade, politics, and philosophy, operating as an aristocratic club and a trading floor.

This imposing building impresses with its **elegance** and belongs to the type of Renaissance "urban loggia." Its architecture is characterized by:

• **Arched Openings (Arcades):** The Loggia's facade is dominated by large **arched openings** (or arcades) that offer openness and refinement.
• **Venetian Style:** The clean lines and symmetry reflect the pure Venetian Renaissance style, similar to corresponding buildings found in Venice and other Cretan cities.

Although the Loggia suffered damage during the Ottoman period, it has been restored and remains one of the most photographed spots in Rethymno.

In contrast to its former function, the Loggia today houses the **Shop of the Archaeological Receipts and Expropriations Fund (TAP)**.
